You are going to see how little update in a room makes a big difference. Below is the before image of our guest bedroom. The color of the mahagony floor was just too red in our opinion while the interior already has pretty good bones with plenty of natural lights.
With a fresh coat of paint, replacing the old closet doors and putting new hardwood floors were all we did for this guest bedroom as part of the house renovation project. This engineered hardwood is from Mirage Floors, a Canadian company. It is on the more expensive end compare to other alternatives but we absolutely love the light wood shade with subtle uneven gray tone which looks different from typical maple wood that’s more yellowish. We chose their semi-gloss finish and it feels smooth but not slippery. We decided to invest on a good quality flooring before we moved in because we knew it would be a great hassle to update interior flooring once you have all the furnitures and start living in the house. Also, flooring really sets the mood in the whole space while you may think they are covered under large pieces of furnishings.
Because this room isn’t that much spacious after accommodating a queen size bed and knowing when our international guests visit, they bring so many big luggages, we wanted to preserve open spaces instead of filling with more furnitures. So, on one side of the bed, we decided to fit a small desk instead of pairing 2 nightstands, one on each side. Guests appreciate having table or desk where they can set their personal belongings during their stay. I chose stool over a chair so that it can tuck under the desk without taking up any additional space and this wooden, curved bench is just the perfect find for that purpose. Isn’t the bench gorgeous?
While I wanted to keep the colors of the room neutral for a more timeless look, I like to complement it with a pop of color. That’s why red office lamp was chosen. With a tight budget I have set for myself, I knew I had to find lamps that make a big statement without a high price tag and I also knew I wanted a more scandinavian inspired design for this light and airy guest bedroom. And this lamp with the beautiful red and wooden legs is the ideal choice.
I am happy how this room came together for this summer. It feels relaxed and cheery which is the vibe I was going for to make our guests feel welcome and stress-free. Let me know what you guys think!
